Playing Pickleball in JB as a Singaporean 2026 — Courts, Costs & Tips

The Johor Bahru pickleball scene has changed a lot since 2024. New venues have opened, pricing has shifted, and the whole experience of crossing the Causeway for a game has gotten smoother. If you have been thinking about trying JB pickleball but have not made the trip yet, 2026 is the year to do it.

This is the practical, updated version — real costs, specific court recommendations based on which checkpoint you use, and tips from players who make the trip regularly.

The Real Cost: Singapore vs JB in 2026

Here is the honest comparison as of March 2026.

Singapore pickleball court rates:

  • Public courts (ActiveSG): S$6–10/hr, but slots are extremely limited and book out instantly
  • Private indoor courts: S$30–60/hr
  • Realistic cost per person (4 players, 2 hours): S$15–30 per person for the court alone
  • JB pickleball court rates:

  • Budget outdoor (Pickleboleh, Ponderosa, Forum Group): RM20/hr off-peak — about S$6/hr
  • Mid-range indoor (JuzDink, Pickle Connection, D Pickle Zone): RM30–48/hr off-peak — about S$9–14/hr
  • Premium indoor (KICKS, Pickle Friends): RM45–58/hr off-peak — about S$13–17/hr
  • Realistic cost per person (4 players, 2 hours at RM40/hr): roughly S$6 per person

Even with transport costs factored in, JB works out 50–70% cheaper than playing at a private indoor court in Singapore. The gap is even wider if you play during off-peak hours.

Best Courts Near the Causeway (Woodlands Crossing)

If you cross via Woodlands and clear customs at JB CIQ, these venues are the closest. All drive times assume normal traffic after clearing immigration.

10 Minutes Away

KICKS — The Pickle Exchange in Taman Gembira is the closest quality venue to JB CIQ. VIP courts, tournament-grade facilities, an in-house cafe, and a gear shop. RM45/hr off-peak, RM70/hr peak. The best all-round option if you want convenience and a premium experience.

15 Minutes Away

Tiger Ace Pickleball Hub in Taman Anggerik has six indoor courts from RM38/hr off-peak. Important: temporarily closed as of March 2026, so check before planning your trip.

Gotta Bounce in Tampoi offers nine pickleball courts — six indoor plus three sheltered outdoor. RM48/hr off-peak. Good social vibe, popular with Singaporean groups. The sheltered outdoor courts mean weather is rarely a problem.

Ponderosa Golf & Country Club has eight outdoor courts in a resort setting. RM20/hr before 5pm. Combine pickleball with a swim and lunch at the club. One of the cheapest options near the border.

20 Minutes Away

Forum Group @ Toppen in Tebrau has four indoor courts inside a mall. RM20/hr off-peak and open until 2am. The cheapest indoor option in JB and the only one for late-night sessions.

Hawk Shark Sports Club in Johor Jaya is the training-focused option. The Titan ball machine and professional coaching make it worth the slightly longer drive if you are working on your game.

Best Courts via the Second Link (Tuas Crossing)

Coming from Tuas puts you in western JB. These venues are easier to reach from that side.

Pickleboleh at EduCity, Iskandar Puteri — 12 floodlit outdoor courts from RM20/hr off-peak. JB's biggest outdoor venue and one of the cheapest. About 20 minutes from the Second Link.

X Park @ Sunway Iskandar — covered outdoor courts in an adventure park setting. RM50/hr off-peak. A different experience if you want to combine activities.

Pickle Connection in Nusa Bestari — six air-conditioned courts inside TF Value Mart. RM40/hr off-peak. Good parking and a straightforward booking process.

Total Trip Cost Breakdown (2026)

Here is what a typical Saturday morning JB pickleball trip actually costs for a group of four Singaporeans.

|------|------|

ItemCost
Causeway toll + fuel (shared 4 ways)~S$3–5 per person
Court — 2 hours off-peak at RM40/hr~S$6 per person
Lunch in JB~S$5–8 per person
Total per person~S$14–19

For the same two hours at a private court in Singapore plus hawker lunch, you would spend S$20–35 per person. That is roughly 40–50% savings on every trip.

If you play fortnightly, that is S$300–400 saved per year. Enough for a new paddle.

Practical Tips for 2026

Download the booking apps before you go. Most JB venues use the AFA Community SuperApp or PlaySports Together. Some use Courtsite. Download, create your account, and browse available slots from Singapore before crossing.

Cross before 7:30am on weekends. Causeway jams on Saturday mornings are real. Leave Singapore early, clear customs before the rush, and you can be on court by 9am. Weekday mornings are almost always smooth.

Book morning off-peak. Most venues define off-peak as before 5pm or 6pm on weekdays. Weekend off-peak varies by venue but mornings are usually cheaper. This is where the biggest savings are.

Bring your own paddle and balls. Rental paddles are available at most venues (RM5–10) but playing with your own gear is always better. Bring a few outdoor balls too — some venues appreciate it.

Have ringgit ready. Most venues accept card, but parking, drinks, and small purchases are easier with cash. Change money at JB CIQ or use a Wise/YouTrip card for good exchange rates.

Check venue status before driving. Follow venues on Instagram or call ahead. Some JB courts have had temporary closures or hours changes. A two-minute check saves a wasted border crossing.

Combine with food and shopping. Forum Group is inside Toppen mall. Pickle Connection is in TF Value Mart. Both make it easy to play, eat, and shop in one trip. Many Singaporeans turn a morning pickleball session into a full JB day out.
